Current Events #4: Obvious to You, Amazing to Others

My discovery for this week is an animated video by Derek Sivers. Derek Sivers is a once-musician, entrepreneur, author and frequent speaker at the TED Conferences.

What I like about this short video is that it clearly articulates what prevents sharing and collaboration. As I watched it, I thought of the times that I haven’t contributed because I didn’t think what I had to say was original or creative enough. In the end, I agreed with Derek’s point: what we think is too simple to mention might, in fact, be worthwhile to someone else.

Not only would it be motivating for our students to see this short video, especially when it comes to group work and online collaboration, but it’s also useful to keep in mind with blogging and new adventures in tweeting within a Personal Learning Network.

  1. Hi Jen,
What a great clip! I am a new blogger myself and am wondering if I will have anything powerful to say or if anyone really wants to hear my ideas, and this video was affirming. I think I will just keep blogging and see what the world thinks!
